NEW YORK — In an effort to ease tensions in East Asia, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution this week to provide free remedial history lessons to all senior Japanese officials.
The resolution comes on the heels of Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto (pictured above) declaring that comfort women “were necessary [during World War II] to maintain discipline in the army,” a comment which has rankled Japan’s immediate neighbors South Korea and China.
